Jurate Labanauskiene: From Nature to Art and Self-Discovery

Every artist embarks on a unique journey filled with discoveries and challenges. This is a story about a creative journey that began after a long hiatus and led to new heights. Surrounded by nature, away from the hustle and bustle of the city, paintings are born, filled with deep meaning and emotions. This article is about the importance of following your heart despite obstacles and doubts, and how art can become a bridge between the inner world and the surrounding reality.
The Global Talent Confederation introduces you to a new representative, Jurate Labanauskiene from Kaunas, Lithuania. Jurate has a rich creative background and shared her insights with us.

Jurate, You have a very original and unusual style of work. How did you develop it, and where did you find inspiration for creating such beautiful pieces?

I live surrounded by nature, where there are almost no people, only wild animals, the sky, stars, and silence. In such moments, I often reflect on the meaning of life, relationships, and communication between people. I realized how much time we spend on anger when we should strive for greater understanding of each other. I understood the importance of loving nature and everything around us. Nature and human relationships are my sources of inspiration. I am also very drawn to details, shapes, and their harmonious combination.

What challenges do you face when creating your works?

In fact, there were no difficulties; it was just a matter of finding the right techniques and means to ensure the painting safely reaches the customer. After all, it is a relief work that may not withstand impacts during transportation.

In your profile on the Confederation’s website, you mentioned a long break in your creative work. How difficult was it to return to creativity after a 7-year break? What challenges did you encounter?

My last exhibition was in 2009, and since then, 15 long years have passed. However, this time was not wasted, as I continued to create, making paintings that I carefully kept at home. The challenge was not in creating but in presenting my works to the audience and talking about them, as it is always a bit nerve-wracking to open your soul through art.

Do you have any rituals or habits that help you get into the creative mood?

I have my own studio at home where I work in solitude. We live just me, my husband, and seven puppies. No one disturbs my creativity. It is important for me to see trees, swimming fish, sunrises, and sunsets. And, of course, to listen to music. I turn on my favorite radio station “Lietus” because I love Lithuanian music, sing along with it, and create paintings. Sometimes I hear words from a song and already see the future painting.

Do you have a dream that you have not yet realized as an artist?

There hasn’t been anything that I couldn’t bring to life. It’s more a matter of time and technique. I have a rich imagination, and my dream is to create a huge wall painting of faces and hands. I also dream of presenting my works in another country.

Is it difficult to make a name for yourself in the art world with such an original style of work?

Yes, it can be difficult. Not everyone understands what I create. For some, it seems meaningless or something simple, like what’s so hard about gluing details. Others are frightened by my demons or skeletons. But all my works have a deep meaning. I believe that my creative time is just beginning, and I am gaining more recognition from professional artists. I think my works will find their rightful place and gain value.

You also mentioned that you have had both personal and group exhibitions. Do you have a favorite exhibition? Why did it stand out?
I have had several personal exhibitions, and they were very successful. However, the exhibition at the Art Kaunas Festival 2024 left a special impression. For the first time, I was among all the artists. I realized how important it is to be with like-minded people, share experiences, and, most importantly, be recognized as an artist by the largest professionals in Lithuania. I found new friends and colleagues.
What feedback have you received about your works at exhibitions? Have these comments influenced your creativity?

I received only the best feedback, that my works hypnotize and make people think. People often asked how I do it. Yes, the comments had an impact—I am even more confident that what I create is beautiful and meaningful. Each painting finds its viewer and buyer, whether it’s a little demon, a girl from space, a face immersed in ice blocks, or just a composition of details.

Finally, could you give some advice to aspiring artists? Share your experience?

I want to inspire all beginners to create, do what brings them joy. Don’t be afraid of challenges and different opinions. Show your talent to the world. Someone might try to stop you or say your creativity is insignificant. Never listen to such people, only listen to your heart. We artists are truly sensitive people, so I wish you to be brave and strive for your dreams, because dreams do come true. One of them was indeed goldentimetalent.

Art is not just paintings and sculptures; it is a reflection of the artist’s soul, their experiences, and dreams.
May everyone who reads these lines find the courage to create and share their vision with the world.
Don’t be afraid to follow your path, for it will lead you to true recognition and happiness.
May your dreams, like mine, one day become reality, inspiring and filling life with meaning.
